NELFUND Portal Problems: Pending Status, Mismatches and Upkeep Rejections
Most stalled NELFUND applications come from a small set of causes: records that do not match, a school that has not uploaded its data, or an upkeep request for the wrong session. Application stays "pending"
A guide from The Condia lists these causes: your school has not uploaded your records to the verification system, your BVN or NIN details do not match your JAMB records, your admission letter is unclear, your bank details are wrong, or the school is still verifying. Ask your school's NELFUND desk or student affairs office to confirm your record is uploaded.
Name mismatch
NELFUND checks your NIN against NIMC, your BVN against NIBSS and your admission number against JAMB or the school. If your name is spelled or ordered differently across these, fix the source record first. Applying again with the same mismatch will fail the same way.
Verification fails
Check that you chose the correct institution and typed your matric or JAMB number exactly. Fresh students use their JAMB registration number in place of a matric number. If the school does not appear or shows no record, the school may not be on the system yet, and reporting this to your students' union and academic management is the usual advice.
Upkeep rejected
NELFUND stated that upkeep is tied to each institution's academic session and that applications can be rejected if you apply for a session that has ended. The fix, per its statement, is to reapply under the new academic session or resolve the identified issue. Institutions were asked to upload academic calendars so students receive full upkeep. Money not received
- Institutional charges go to the school, not to you. The guidelines say the school must acknowledge payment and give you a receipt within seven days.
- The guidelines allow up to 30 days for approval and for disbursement, subject to available funds.
- Upkeep goes to the bank account on your profile, so check that it is correct.
Rumors and fake help
A claim in early 2026 that upkeep rose to ₦150,000 was reported as debunked, and the monthly upkeep was stated as ₦20,000. Nobody can speed up approval for a fee. Contact NELFUND through its official channels, including the email address it published, [email protected].
